Start with a short inventory
Walk through your home and note large furniture, fragile pieces, and items that need special handling. Share changes with your coordinator. Set aside donations and items you will sell before buying packing supplies.
Pack the rooms you use least
Begin with spare rooms, decorations, and seasonal belongings. Keep everyday clothing, basic cookware, and work equipment accessible until close to moving day. Finish one area before opening cartons across every room.
Give fragile items a separate plan
Use suitable cartons and protective materials. Mark the contents and destination room, and tell your mover about delicate, heavy, or unusually shaped pieces. Ask who is packing any item you expect the crew to protect.
Make labels useful
Write the room name on more than one side of the carton. Add a short contents description and identify cartons you want opened first. A simple numbering system can help you check what arrived.
Keep an essentials bag with you
Carry personal documents, keys, chargers, basic toiletries, and a change of clothes. Choose essentials based on your own delivery window rather than assuming the truck will arrive with you.
Do a final walkthrough
Check closets, drawers, outdoor spaces, and storage areas. Photograph the final inventory when practical and keep your move paperwork easy to find.
